MORTIFY THE FLESH

“Romans 8:13 – For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”

To mortify is to put to death, kill or destroy. So why does the Bible speak of killing or destroying the works or deeds of the body?

The flesh is the habit of doing wrong or partnership of the outer and (or fallen man), and unregenerated (or unsaved soul), which can then be sponsored by evil spirits. In effect, anyone who yields to the dictates of the flesh cannot walk in obedience to God, as the flesh is not subject to the law of God (Rom. 8:7).

Therefore, when the Bible says to mortify the deeds of the body, it is a call to subdue completely or kill the works of the flesh, i.e a resolve to live after the Spirit by heeding and yielding to the voice of God’s Spirit and living in obedience to God’s Word at the expense of the cravings and desires of the flesh.

The good news is that this is possible, but only by the help of God’s Spirit. Ask Him today to give you the strength in your inner man to put the death the desires of the flesh, and to have a fresh appetite for the things of God. As you do this day by day, you will begin to find the inner strength to resist sin, and experience a transformation in your walk with God.

Father in the name of Jesus, we pray that the voice of the Holy Spirit will become clearer to the leaders of this nation, that they will heed to His counsel in Jesus name.

Prayer for Israel – (Ps 122:6)
Father in the name of Jesus, we ask today, that there will be peace in Jerusalem and that your purposes be established in that city. Amen. (Ps 122:6)

PRAYER FOR UNITY IN THE CHURCH
Father in the name of Jesus, we pray for church leaders that they will have an obedient heart to obey God’s mandate for the unity of the church, in Jesus name.

PRAYER FOR SOULS / REVIVAL
Father in the name of Jesus, we bind every spirit of prayerlessness, carelessness and distraction from missionaries as they go into the field in Jesus name.
