“Scriptural Text: 1 Peter 4:10 (NKJV)
“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
Usually, when the word ‘calling’ is mentioned, many think in the direction of full-time pastoral ministry, yet both are not exclusively synonymous. When we received Christ as Lord and Saviour, we also received a measure of grace individually (Eph 4:7). That grace is to help us carry out certain aspects of Christian service more effectively than others. In other words, it is customized to our calling.
In our opening text today, Apostle Peter stresses that we ought to minister to others with the gift that God has given us. By referring to us as stewards, he implies that we would give account to God on how faithful and fruitful we are in fulfilling our calling.
It is thus imperative that we practice faithfulness in our calling by ensuring that we serve, first in God’s house diligently with whatever gift He has given us, and then actively in bringing the saving knowledge of Christ to others that God brings our way.
Therefore, consider the areas where God has gifted you a greater measure of grace than others (1Cor. 12:4-11), and choose to become faithful in utilizing those gifts to edify other believers in the Body of Christ and to help others to know Jesus. This is your calling as a believer.
