1 Corinthians 15:34
“Awake to righteousness, and sin not…”
Many are enslaved, and many more struggle everyday against addictions and sinful patterns of the flesh, but God’s instruction to overcoming sin is clear: “Wake up to righteousness!”. In order words, He says, focus on righteousness and you will not sin. (Rom. 6:19). Sin therefore is no longer a problem, if we can obey the instruction as seen in our opening scripture.
Obedience to God saves us from a lot of errors and mistakes. Our scriptural text tells us that if we awake to righteousness we would sin not. Awakening to righteousness therefore entails maintaining a consciousness of our righteous nature and embracing those principles that God has revealed to us through His Word that govern the nature of righteousness. These principles include holiness, love and other fruits of the spirit seen in Galatians 5:22.
So, rather than constantly focusing on your insufficiencies and wrongs, awaken to righteousness by keeping your heart and thoughts on God’s nature of righteousness already residing and at work in you. And as you do this, you are enforcing sins defeat and Christ’s victory over you. Glory to God!
