So we fasted and besought our God for this: and...

Isaiah 58:6-7 (KJV)
is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
Fasting is often misunderstood in many Christian circles. While many engage in it as a religious routine or sacrifice, not everyone understands its true purpose. For some, fasting becomes a mere ritual of going without food, but without the right understanding, it is simply starvation. Unfortunately, when fasting is not done with spiritual insight, it fails to disarm the enemy or produce any meaningful results in the place of prayer.
The power of fasting lies in understanding its spiritual significance. Fasting is a two-fold process: passive self-denial and active compassion. It is more than just abstaining from food; it is a spiritual sacrifice that can loosen the bonds of wickedness and break yokes. Just as we see from our opening text, acceptable fasting not only involves denying oneself but also requires actions like feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and showing love to those in need. It’s when these elements come together that fasting truly disarms the devil and opens the heavens for divine intervention.
As you fast, ensure you do so with the right understanding. Let your fasting be accompanied by acts of kindness and love toward others. Look beyond the physical denial and engage in spiritual and practical actions that align with God’s heart. Spend time in prayer, meditate on the Word, and give to those in need. In doing so, your fast will not only bring personal transformation but also release God’s power to break strongholds in your life and the lives of others. Hallelujah!
START-UP PRAYER:
Father, I ask for grace to fast with the right understanding. As I humble myself in fasting, may I also act in love, kindness, and compassion towards all you have placed on my path in Jesus Name.
PRAYER FOR A NATION
BOLIVIA
Bolivians are overwhelmingly Catholic (at least formally), and the Catholic Church has historically wielded enormous influence. It is now being threatened by the sizable increase in Protestant and other non-Catholic denominations. A further challenge is the large number of baptized Roman Catholics, over one-half, that practice Catholicism with traditional Inca and Christo-pagan religions. The number of Evangelical Christians has risen to over fifteen percent and their influence is growing. Some form of the Bible is available in most Bolivian languages, but illiteracy prevents many from reading it. Bolivia is changing politically and many are unsure of the future, but each day they live with poverty and the resulting social issues.
PRAYER FOR THE NATION:
Father, in the name of Jesus, we pray that the church in this nation will overflow in all the gifts of the Spirit, including powerful preaching, healing and prophetic revelation in Jesus Name.
PRAYER FOR THE LEADERS
Father, we pray that you would remove those who take bribes and have selfish agendas rather than God’s agenda, those who are serving themselves and not your will for this nation in Jesus Name.
PRAYER FOR ISRAEL
Father, in the name of Jesus, we pray that you will cause Israel to be unified and cause your Fear to fill all the Land in Jesus Name.
PRAYER FOR UNITY IN THE CHURCH
Father, we ask that you save us from the tempter and cause our labour to not be in vain in Jesus Name.
PRAYER FOR SOULS / REVIVAL
Father, in the name of Jesus, we ask that you dismantle every pride and self-reliance in the heart of the unsaved and replace it with a hunger for spiritual truth in Jesus Name.
