Many people find it difficult to attain stillness in their quiet time with God because they are troubled. They struggle to concentrate in prayer or meditation on the Word because their heart is continually drawn towards their needs, and they focus on the challenges they face rather than on the goodness of God.

Our opening text today shows us how to avoid this trap and to achieve stillness in fellowship with God where we can enjoy the whispers and counsel of God; by casting or putting forth our cares upon Him because He cares for us.

To cast is to throw away, to project or to put or send forth forcefully. Casting your cares thus involves talking to the LORD about your cares and worries and then trusting Him to handle them. Then you go ahead to show or express this trust by refusing to worry or fret about that problem, but rather living in constant thanksgiving regarding the issue.

Instead of pondering on what it seems God has not yet done for you, choose rather to meditate on what He has done, either in your own life, or in the lives of others. Meditating on His Goodness in this way will put your mind at rest and move you to a point where you can fellowship with Him freely, enjoy intimacy with Him and hear His voice about the next step to take in your life, career or business.

Therefore, seize this moment to meditate on the goodness of God, and to cast all your cares upon Him. He cares for you and has made a way for you beyond what your eyes can see. As you continue in trust and thanksgiving, He will open your eyes to see the way up!
