Hebrews 13:17 – Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
Obedience is one of those virtues that are of a great price before the Lord. Little wonder, when Saul tried to justify his disobedience by reserving sacrifices for God, Samuel rebuked him saying, “…to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:20-22).
Interestingly, the same situation is replicated often in our Churches today, where the Pastor gives instructions and the people disobey; in most cases, agreeing with the plan initially, but choosing to derail or implement it their own way. In Exodus 16:16-20, we see a similar case where the people disobeyed Moses’ instruction and this angered Moses. That is why in our opening Scripture, Paul admonished the brethren to obey those who have been given authority over them, so that they would not give an account of the people to God, with grief, as this would be unprofitable for the people, especially because, an angry Pastor cannot bless or benefit the Church.
This is why it is important for us as God’s people to obey the Pastors that God has placed over us because their displeasure would be unprofitable for us. So, determine today to begin to obey fully, every instruction that your Pastor gives to you, and as you do, be assured that you would enjoy the manifold blessings of obedience. Glory to God!
