2 Sam 24;24
‘…..neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing’’
We serve an awesome God, who is the Creator of the entire universe and beyond. He owns all things and lacks absolutely nothing. All that we are, have or will ever be proceeds from Him. When we therefore think of offering thanks to Him, it cannot be anything short of all our might, and all our hearts.
Jesus revealed that our hearts are connected to our treasures (Matt.6:21), so thanking the Creator with all your heart entails thanking Him with your treasures- i,e with that means much to you. This is not because He needs it, rather it is a declaration of your honour for His Sovereignty. It is important to understand that giving to a great man is an honour to his greatness. In the same way, giving to God is an expression of how much you honor who He is and what He has done in your life. What is important to God is not the size of your gift, but how much it really cost you.
David was a man who understood thanking God. It was recorded that he made a vow not to offer unto God something that does not cost him something. What do you want to offer to God for all that he has done for you and who He is to you? Make a sacrifice in His honor with something that costs you something.
