Owning the outcome refers to taking responsibility for the results of our own actions and decisions. It means accepting both the successes and failures that come from our choices, and taking proactive steps to learn from them and make improvements.
In our opening text today, the Bible shows us the importance of taking responsibility for our own actions. We are asked to judge our own conduct, and not to make excuses or point fingers when things do not go the way we planned.
While it is true that the decisions made by some other persons in the past may have affected you, building a sense of responsibility helps you to become proactive, knowing that your future is not just a product of your past. So, instead of feeling like a victim of circumstances, you recognize that you can make choices today that will determine the outcomes tomorrow. Yesterday plus today equals tomorrow!
Owning the outcomes also builds trust and reliability. When others see that you consistently take responsibility for your actions and deliver on commitments, they begin to develop confidence in your abilities and relate with you as a dependable person.
Overall, remember that it takes the help of God’s Spirit to make the right decisions that brings desirable outcomes at every juncture (Isa. 48:17). Therefore, learn to seek His counsel and guidance as you make decisions everyday. When His counsel influences your every decision, then you can be sure of success at every turn.
