And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the LORD, offer it at your own will.
Leviticus 22:29
Thanksgiving cannot be forced. It must be offered from a grateful heart willingly, because God is a heart God. The acceptance of your thanksgiving therefore is weighed from the state of your heart from where it proceeds.
The above scriptures use two notable words; WHEN and WILL. ‘When’ indicates an already fixed time for thanksgiving, while the ‘Will’ means it has to come from your own heart. Your thanksgiving therefore, is not necessarily valuable to God because it is accompanied by much offering; it is valuable to Him first because your heart is engaged in it. Your heart is the first offering that God requires of you.
The proof that your will is engaged in thanksgiving is that it affects your mind and your emotion.
With your mind, you ought to meditate on the reason you are thanking God. Your emotion is an expression of your thoughts, thus it must be consistent with your words when you thank the Lord. So, make up your mind to always prepare your heart when you want to set out to thank God. This would help your thanksgiving to be acceptable before God.
