Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified
Isaiah 43:26
Does God forget His promises? Our scripture focus says for us to remind God of His Word. Could thus be because God forgets just as we do and therefore needs His memory to be refreshed? Or is there something God desires to teach us as His children? The later seems to be the case.
We remind God of His Word as a way of reminding ourselves of two things; first that God promised and second, that He is able to perform. By reminding God of His promises through thanksgiving, we not only reinforce our confidence in His ability, we also commit Him to perform what He has promised. It is also important to note that we don’t remind Him grudgingly because a grudge is an element of doubt. Rather, we remind Him of His promises in thanksgiving. When we thank God like this, we are positively charged in our hearts in the midst of our seemingly negative situation.
Thanksgiving provokes a response from God because it activates our faith. It commits God to fulfilling just what He has said. Not as though He had forgotten or was unwilling; but our doubts continue to limit His power. You would remember Jesus unable to do mighty works in Jerusalem because of their unbelief (Matt.13:58). God would not fail like men do. He promises, so we would be confident that it is His will for us to experience what He has promised. Thus by those promises, war a good warfare through thanksgiving. Glory to God forever!
