“Scriptural Text: Proverbs 3:9-10 (NKJV)
“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
To honour is to express esteem, admiration and respect for a superior or one with great influence and affluence. In our scriptural text today, we are called to honour the LORD with substance, which means to give Him an offering, especially that which reflects our honour for Him as the Source of all our blessings.
The first fruit offering is giving God the first – the first of your harvest or increase as an acknowledgment that He is the Source of your increase. It is also giving God the best of your increase. The focus of this offering is honour. So, in honouring the Lord with your first fruit, you are to give according to what you consider honour to Him. This may be the income of your first day, first week, first month, first thousand, etc. As long as it is first, then it is first fruit.
God asks for the first because He wants to lead you. Your first fruit brings Him into the first place which is the leadership position and gives Him the right to lead you into new experiences. And when He leads you, plenty is guaranteed, not only your finances, but also in every area of your life.
Therefore, as you honour the Lord with your first fruit today, prepare your barns for a bumper harvest and get ready to experience new things in your finances, and in every area of your life, because indeed, plenty will come!
