Waiting on the Lord does not imply passivity or inactivity. It is an active choice to surrender our own strength and plans before the Lord, and to align ourselves with His timing and purpose for our lives. It is God’s invitation for us to draw near to Him, and to find our strength in His presence.
Just like for any other commandment of God, waiting on the Lord is not a fruitless exercise. As our opening text today shows us, in our waiting, we exchange our weariness for God’s strength, our worries for His peace, and our limitations for His limitless possibilities.
Waiting on the Lord strengthens our faith and molds our character. This is because as we wait, we learn dependency on Him and learn to make Him our only hope. The waiting process teaches us humility and dependency, as we acknowledge that we are not in control, but that He is the one who holds our future.
When we find alignment with God through waiting, our strength is renewed and we are empowered to mount up with wings as eagles above very limitation of life. In waiting, we also find a new strength to run the race before us knowing that God is the source of our sustenance.
Therefore, embrace the opportunity to wait on the Lord today, and do it with all your heart, knowing that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Heb. 11:6). Set your heart aright and spend time in His Word and prayer, seeking His guidance and listening for His voice, and surely, you will return empowered to win in life!
