1 Samuel 15:22
“And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”
God speaks to us in different ways; through the Bible, through the voice of His Spirit in our inner man, through His ministers and even through the occurrences around us. When God gives us an instruction, it is better and profitable if we obey, because we can only enjoy the good of the land when we are willing and obedient (Isa. I:19)
Our text today shows us what God values. We see that God values our obedience to Him more than our sacrifice, though our obedience will often lead us to sacrifice. You can sacrifice so much and yet you have not obeyed, but when you obey God, your very act of obedience becomes the sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to Him.
While God promises forgiveness for areas where you have erred, it is His desire that you mature to the point where you obey His word without delay or excuses. With the strength of His Spirit, you can. Choose today to begin to swiftly obey the voice of God to you and you are sure to begin to enjoy all that He has in store for you. Glory to God!
