And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. Jeremiah 3:15
A pastor is a gift from God to the church. Pastors have been called to serve and not to oppress or usurp authority over another as we see in some places. The wrong mindset some have about ministry is because they may have encountered pastors who were solely concerned about taking from them without any thought for their wellbeing and spiritual development. This is a plot of Satan to distract people and prevent them from enjoying God’s gift to them (Pastors).
A pastor in Hebrew refers to a protector, one who feeds the flock, and a ruler of a flock of men. In Greek, it is translated to mean one who cares for the total wellbeing of the flock. The pastor is, therefore, one who protects and cares for the total wellbeing of the members of the church. Like a shepherd protects the sheep from the attacks of predators, a pastor preserves the members of the church from the attacks of Satan and from men who want to prey on them.
The office of the pastor is a sensitive one because it relates directly with the members of all the body for which Christ is the head. The pastor will receive a greater judgment because he deals with the preservation of souls that have been won. Therefore, align yourself to the instructions of your pastor, because he is God’s gift to you- to enable you to stay on course and fulfill God’s purpose for your life.
